About

Creating and Reimagining Across Worlds,Together.

MASAPERA was born at the meeting of worlds ~ where desert meets sea, and Adivasi Indigenous roots continue their journey as wanderers.

Here we share a part of our nomadic story of connection, craft and creation.
A Kalbeliya familia imagined. And a Dalit's dream.

Our Story
Our story travels between East and West ~ across deserts and seas, along the old Gypsy and Hippie trails where makers, dreamers, musicians and dancers cross paths. The nomadic journey is our symbol of connection beyond borders ~ to the Earth, to ancestry, and to each other.

Rooted in the Kalbeliya Sapera and Indigenous Dalit communities of India, we create to preserve heritage and reimagine tradition through a modern, ethical lens.

Our Work Flows Through Three Threads
Community-made ~ handcrafted by Kalbeliya Sapera and Dalit artisans, keeping ancestral beading, stitching, weaving and metalwork alive.
Co-created ~ collaborations with artisans and friends across cultures, bridging worlds and creating opportunities for Dalit entrepreneurship and creative leadership.
Collected and Upcycled ~ reimagined sari fabrics, vintage textiles and hand-stitched garments transformed into new life.

Our jewellery carries the pulse of Indigenous India ~ handmade silver, brass and beaded adornments crafted as talismans of protection and beauty.

This is our way of making ~ where Indigenous arts meets art in the contemporary time, and where art becomes a living bridge between memory and change.

Our Initiative
MASAPERA grows from a simple vision ~

Preserving traditions ~ honouring and reimagining Kalbeliya, Adivasi and Dalit craft.
Working with the Earth ~ using natural fibres, non-toxic dyes and walking toward GOTS certification while supporting small makers along the way.
Empowering communities ~ creating fair income and opportunities, especially for women.
Reinvesting in resilience ~ nurturing education, health and creativity so communities can flourish.

We work closely with Vikas Project, Our little Project, both based in our Kalbeliya Sapera communities town in Rajasthan.

"This family led project began as a yearning to connect ~ to turn love and adversity into making and movement. I am the first half Western, half Kalbeliya Sapera child of my community ~ born in the desert monsoon to my Sapera Ma and raised by my papa in the West. Returning to India, I came to understand my Ma’s heart and my extended tribe’s hopes, and felt a calling that has never left and fills me. I was the lucky one. It is a privilege to be in this position and to have the choices in front of me.

From these contrast of worlds grew a seed ~ to weave a bridge between them, to share my family’s craft and art so they can rise, and to keep creating with my community even when I am far from home. We partner with allies across artisan communities beyond Dalit and Adivasi lineages ~ opening pathways for Dalit and Adivasi entrepreneurship, practicing ways of making in tune with Ma Earth, and continuing to learn what we can offer you and the world through our making.

May this hope invite you to weave and wander in your own life’s making and magic. We are one familia at MASAPERA, wherever we are ~ and we are here to remind you that you are wandering art."
